This Weeks Favorite Movie :)

..Or maybe this MONTH’s favorite movie, depending on what movies I see in the next couple of weeks in class..

anyway, just saw Gran Torino for the first time in class last week, and i LOVED it. VERY sad and ashamed to say that this was the first Clint Eastwood movie i actually saw..(i can already hear the “boos”) I watched it for my race and gender in American Film class and it was the first movie I actually really liked from class so far. (other movies included Crash, Lone Star, Smoke Signals, and Godfather 1 and 2) the other movies were fine, but I would never watch it again outside of class (i hear boos again for not loving Godfather, but its just too long my butt aches and my attention starts going towards my blackberry by the half way point of the film). But wow, Gran Torino was hilarious, touching, and heartbreaking all at the same time. I already have a weak spot for old people, which is why it tugged me in the first place. But I thoroughly enjoyed all the racist Asian jokes, and some of the stuff Clint Eastwood’s character said were just too funny. Clint Eastwood’s performance was so good i was able to forgive the terrible Asian actors. (I secretly wish I could have played Sue, but I guess I’m the wrong type of Asian, not that anyone would have noticed).

Because I was watching this for my race and gender class, I have to say i liked the way Clint Eastwood addressed the issues of race in this movie without making the audience feel uncomfortable or shitty about themselves like movies like Crash does. I feel like Crash just slaps us in the face with calling people racist. Gran Torino on the other hand is there to tell us a story first, and talking about race is secondary. It also has an actual story line and characters that we can care for and get attathed to, unlike Crash who throws us a bunch of characters that we barely get to know.

anyway, what I am trying to say is that Gran Torino is AWESOME, and everyone who has not seen it should totally watch it.„ or maybe im the only person in this world who hasnt seen it yet…lol but this has inspired me to watch more Clint Eastwood movies. YAY
